The Town of Syracuse is applying for a $700,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Wastewater/Drinking Water Program, administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA). The need for the construction grant is to help fund critical water utility infrastructure improvements on Huntington Street such as replacing aging water mains, upgrading undersized service lines, and removing lead gooseneck connections to enhance the water quality, improve fire protection, and enhance the health and safety for customers. The Town of Syracuse will hold its second public hearing on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 7 PM at Town Hall, located at 310 N Huntington St, Syracuse, Indiana, to provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the project.

The total project cost is estimated at $3,127,500 and the Town is committing $2,427,500 as the local match, seeking approval from the Indiana Finance Authority of a State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF).

The project qualifies under the Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) area-wide benefit, with 55.7% of town residents meeting LMI criteria. At least $389,900 of the requested CDBG funds will directly benefit LMI households. Interested residents are invited to attend and share their comments either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities or with limited English proficiency can be requested at the contact information below. This project will result in the displacement of no individuals or businesses. Information concerning the proposed project may be obtained from David Wilkinson, and his contact information is provided below.
