ORDINANCE NO. 11-07-25
AN AMENDMENT TO ORDINANCE 85-7 REQUIRING ADDRESS
NUMBERS ON RESIDENTIAL HOMES AND BUSINESSES WITHIN THE
TOWN LIMITS OF SILVER LAKE, INDIANA
WHEREAS, the Silver Lake Town Council, Kosciusko County, Indiana, deems it necessary to require all residences and buildings to display visible address numbers to assist emergency services, mail delivery, and utility services in locating properties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED as follows:
SECTION 1: REQUIREMENT
a) Every residence, dwelling, and building within the Town of Silver Lake shall have its assigned street number clearly displayed.
b) Numbers shall be affixed to the structure facing the street of the address assigned and, in a manner, visible from the public right-of-way.
c) Numbers must be clearly visible and of a contrasting color to the background of the structure they are mounted on.
d) Numbers must be visible from the street both day and night.
e) Numbers must remain unobstructed by vegetation or other materials.
SECTION 2: ENFORCEMENT
The Town Marshal shall be responsible for enforcing this ordinance, providing the property owner with fifteen (15) days to comply after notification. Failure to place the address number after notification will result in a fine, no less than twenty-five dollars ($25.00) and no more than fifty dollars ($50.00) per seven (7) day period. The Marshal, under the direction of the Silver Lake Council, may waive the fine if compliance is achieved within the seven (7) day period.
SECTION 3: VALIDITY
If any portion of this ordinance is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unconstitutional, such findings shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect following the passage, and thirty (30) days after its publication. Passed this 10th day of December, 2025.
