Pursuant to I.C. 5-3-1, notice is hereby given that the Town Council of the Town of Mentone, Indiana, will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. local time on November 4, 2026, at the Mentone Town Hall Meeting Room located at 201 West Main Street, Mentone, IN 46539, to hear evidence concerning and considering the adoption of Ordinance No. 26-490, annexing contiguous land into the Town of Mentone Lake.
The area proposed for annexation is generally east of State Road 19, west of Tucker Myers & Hackendorn’s Addition to the Town of Mentone, and north of the residential properties which lie north of West Harrison Street in the Town of Mentone. The Annexation Area is approximately 50.1 calculated acres. More specifically, the proposed annexation area is legally described as follows:
The North fifty-eight (58) acres of the West one-half (1/2) of the Southeast Quarter of Section Thirty-Four (34), Township Thirty-two (32) North, Range Four (4) East, Kosciusko County, Indiana, LESS AND EXCEPTING THE FOLLOWING FOUR TRACTS:
1) A tract of land in the Southeast Quarter of Section Thirty-four (34), Township Thirty-two (32) North, Range Four (4) East, beginning at the center post of said section and running thence south along the north and south half section line 598 feet; thence East 220 feet; thence north 598 feet to the east and west half section line; thence west along the east and west half section line 220 feet to the place of beginning, and containing 3 acres of land, more or less.
2) A tract of land in the west half of the Southeast Quarter of Section Thirty-four (34), Township Thirty-two (32) North, Range Four (4) East, more particularly described as follows: Beginning at a point in the center of State Road Number 19 1164.6 feet east of the west line of the Southeast Quarter of said Section 34; thence west along the centerline of said road 286 feet; thence north 183 feet; thence east 286 feet; thence south 183 feet to the place of beginning.
3) A tract of land in the west half of the Southeast Quarter of Section Thirty-four (34), Township Thirty-two (32) North, Range Four (4) East, more particularly described as follows: Beginning at a point in the center of State Road Number 19, 878.6 feet east of the west line of the Southeast Quarter of said Section 34, said point being the southwest corner of a tract of land heretofore conveyed by the Grantors herein to the Grantees herein; thence west along the centerline of said road 286 feet; thence north 183 feet; thence east 286 feet; thence south 183 feet to the place of beginning.
4) A tract of land in the west half of the Southeast Quarter of Section Thirty-four (34), Township Thirty-two (32) North, Range Four (4) East, more particularly described as follows, to wit: Beginning at a point 725.6 feet west of the southwest corner of Lot Numbered 273 of Tucker, Myers and Hackedorn’s Addition to Mentone, Indiana, said point being on the north right-of-way line of State Road Number 19; continuing west along said right-of-way, 572.6 feet, to the east right-of-way of a public highway; thence north along said highway, 150.0 feet to an iron post; thence east 572.6 feet; thence south 150.0 feet to the place of beginning, containing 1.98 acres, more or less.
The complete file on the annexation including the petitioner’s request, fiscal plan, and ordinance is on file for inspection in the office of the Mentone Clerk-Treasurer located at 201 West Main Street, Mentone, IN 46539. Documents can be reviewed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., though the office may be closed for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on said days.
The public hearing is open to all, and the opportunity to be heard is given to all. Written comments submitted to the Mentone Clerk-Treasurer prior to the public hearing will be considered. Written comments can be submitted to mentoneclerk@rtcol.com or mailed to 201 West Main Street, Mentone, IN 46539. Letters may also be hand delivered.
