The Town of Pierceton is applying for a construction grant funded by the Community Development Block Grant CARES Act (CDBG-CV) program, administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) to improve sidewalk connections on School Street and Third Street. The intent of the project is in response to the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure residents have safe social distancing and walkable connections to the Elementary School and Pierceton Park. The Town of Pierceton will hold its first public hearing on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 6:30 PM at 105 W. Walnut St., Pierceton, IN to provide residents an opportunity to learn more about the need to apply for the grant and the planned improvements to add sidewalks on School Street and Third Street.

The Town is eligible to apply for up to $1 million in CDBG-CV program funds, but will be seeking federal assistance for $270,641, with an estimated project cost of $422,641 to construct 6-foot wide sidewalks on School Street and Third Street. If awarded, approximately 52.1% of the grant award, $141,003.96 will be used to benefit low-to-moderate income individuals on an area wide basis. The Town of Pierceton is committing at least 30% of its allocated Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (ARPA) funds ($152,000) and OCRA will match the investment one to one for the construction of the aforementioned activities.

Interested residents are invited to provide comments regarding the sidewalk improvements either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities or with limited English proficiency can be requested at the contact information below. This project will result in the displacement of no individuals or businesses. Information concerning the proposed project may be obtained from:
